Blue Note Special Reserve Bourbon Blended From A Variety Of Finishes

Memphis’ B.R. Distilling Company recently dropped its Blue Note Special Reserve, a limited release blend of bourbons with a variety of finishes.

The whiskey maker noted that the new expression is now available, with 2,100 bottles in select markets, for a suggested price of $225 per bottle.

Blue Note Special Reserve is actually a blend of seven different finishing techniques on bourbons ranging from four years in age up to 19 years.

In the prepared statement, the distiller described the release as a combination of straight bourbon whiskeys individually finished up to three additional years in Cognac, Madeira, Sherry, Port, vino de Naranja, and American white oak barrels.

The blend is also made up of three different mash bills distilled in Kentucky and Tennessee, and the finished whiskey clocks in at a blended cask strength of 112.5 proof.

Blue Note’s packaging for the Special Reserve features the exact blend breakdown with ages, finishes and mash bills.

“We like to surprise Blue Note Bourbon fans with unique and limited offerings,” said B.R. Distilling Company President and CEO Logan Welk. “We had reserve inventory of different cask finishes, and instead of limiting them to each be their own individual single barrel, we felt this blend would produce an enhanced quality product that could reach more people and would be worth sharing for a limited time.”

B.R. Distilling Company recently opened an onsite tasting room in Memphis that offers tours every Thursday and Friday. And the whiskey maker’s Blue Note Juke Joint and Blue Note Crossroads whiskeys earned Double Gold medals at the 2023 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
