Angel’s Envy out of Kentucky, as is customary each year around this time, is bringing to market a cask strength version of its classic bourbon finished in ex-port wine barrels. The 2017 version is now upon us, and it is pricing a little higher once again.
The Angel’s Envy Cask Strength Bourbon 2017, according to those behind it, is aged up to seven years as the primary Angel’s Envy market release. A select number of barrels are are then blended and receive an extended finish in Portuguese port wine casks before being bottled at cask strength, with it this year clocking in at 124.5-proof, or 62.25% ABV. Last year it was slightly higher at 124.6 proof, or 62.3% ABV.
“Cask Strength is a complex whiskey unlike any in the marketplace,” said Wes Henderson, co-founder of Angel’s Envy, in a prepared statement. “We started a special tradition with Cask Strength in 2012. I look forward to continuing this tradition for many generations.”
Plans call for this bourbon to be available in 25 domestic markets, including AZ, CA, CO, CT, FL, GA, IL, IN, KY, LA, MA, MD, MI, MN, MO, NJ, NV, NY, OH, OR, PA, TN, TX, WA, and Washington DC. The price tag is around $200 a bottle, or about $20 more from last year.
