A. Smith Bowman Distillery Goes High Rye In New Bourbon

Abraham Bowman Limited Edition High Rye BourbonThe A. Smith Bowman Distillery out of Virginia, as we’ve highlighted in the past, loves its limited edition whiskies that come out now and again into retail, quickly being snapped up by followers of this outfit. The latest, said to be the 12th in this line up, is likely to be one of the most popular to date given its taking the form of a high rye bourbon.

The new Abraham Bowman Limited Edition High Rye Bourbon is said by the distillery to be “a bold bourbon recipe that contains five times more rye than A. Smith Bowman’s standard bourbon recipe.” It was aged for seven years and nine months before bottling, clocking in at rather healthy 100 proof.

“This high rye bourbon has such a distinct nose and taste profile that I think fans looking for a full-bodied bourbon with lots of spice will really enjoy,” said A. Smith Bowman master distiller Brian Prewitt in a statement. “It’s been fun to release experiments like these, and we look forward to creating even more interesting  expressions that are a good fit for our Abraham Bowman line in the future.”

Official tasting notes for this bourbon, which is available this month for around $70, are below. Those looking to hunt down a bottle may have to know someone in Virginia, as it looks like the lion’s share of this release will be just there.

The aroma of slight peppery notes opens up to sweet vanilla, caramel, and toasted oak.  Honey, praline, and spice mingle with baked apples and cherry notes in the flavor. A long, slightly dry finish lingers on the tongue.
