Seattle’s Westland Distillery recently released the 7th edition of its Garryana American Single Malt.
A statement from the distiller notes that this expression clocks in at 50% ABV, comes in a 700ml bottle, and retails for $149.99. It’s part of Westland’s Outpost Range, a collection of limited editions showcasing the provenance of the Pacific Northwest.
Edition 7 is a continuation of Westland’s exploration of Quercus garryana, the rare oak indigenous to the Northwest region.
The single malt was finished in a combination of Washington state Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon casks. A total of 6,900 bottles will be released globally for purchase at Westland’s website and at select retailers nationwide.
Westland Co-Founder Matt Hofmann said of this expression, “Garryana Edition 7’s rich and savory Garry Oak interacts with sturdy Washington wine casks, resulting in a mix of spice and savory fruit.”
Garryana Edition 7’s distiller’s notes:
- NOSE: Blackberry compote, clove, pizza crust, apple turnover.
- PALATE: Molasses, charred cedar, black currant, dry apple cider.
- GRAIN BILL: Washington Select Pale Malt, Munich Malt, Extra Special Malt, Pale Chocolate Malt, Brown Malt, Baird’s Heavily Peated Malt.
