Old Overholt is a relatively inexpensive and popular rye whiskey brand owned by Beam Suntory which dates back to the 1800s. It is not a brand that’s tinkered with too much, but that may be changing, as Beam Suntory recent unveiled a new bottled-in-bond variant.
The new Old Overholt Bonded Rye, according to Beam-Suntory, is the brand’s first bonded release in over 50 years. As the name implies, it meets the federal requirements for being labeled Bottled-in-Bond – aged for four years, bottled at 100 proof, and containing liquid from a single distillation season.
Priced at around $25 for a 750 ml bottle, this new rye is available nationwide starting now and looks to be a regular part of the Old Overholt stable. Very limited official tasting notes for this dark honey brown colored whiskey are below for your consideration.
- Aroma: Oak. Caramel. Hints of vanilla.
- Taste: Char. Spice. Fresh oak.
- Finish: The char’s still there. Oh, and a hint of light fruit.
