Goodwood Brewing Out Of Kentucky Releases A Rye Whiskey

Goodwood Brewing Company launched a rye whiskey to its lineup this year, following the unveiling of its premium bourbon which was aged in stout barrels in 2019. The 90 proof, small-batch rye is the fourth product out of the Goodwood Spirits line and took months of preparation and experimentation to create.

It was aged for two years before being finished in Goodwood English Mild beer barrels. Following that process created what was described by the brand as notes of caramel and vanilla in the rye whiskey that later fade into a complex combination of spice and smoke that is full of body.

Goodwood Rye was released this month in select retail stores and exclusive accounts throughout the Louisville area. It will enter the rest of Kentucky in the near future and be available at the Goodwood Brewing Taproom.

Goodwood Brewing and Spirits has other spirits in development, including a Walnut Brown spirit and an Imperial Stout spirit.

Goodwood Brewing is headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky, and dedicated to making what they say are the highest quality beers and barrel-finished spirits made from scratch. Goodwood’s Louisville brewery is one of Kentucky’s longest continuously operated breweries, having started operations in 1990.

The brewery uses pure, limestone water to create their bourbon and their beer products as well. They take extra steps and use old barrels that are full of flavors that can be used to create nuanced stouts, lagers or ales. The limestone water is said to have magnesium and calcium carbonate that was imparted into it. It also has naturally low levels of sulfur and iron that play a part in fermentation and overall flavor.
