Dogfish Head Releasing A New Limited-Edition Whiskey

Dogfish Head Distilling has a new take on a whiskey series, as it debuts Alternate Takes Volume 4: Whiskey Finished in Utopias Barrels & Oloroso Sherry Barrels.

A statement from the distiller notes that the brand celebrates the “intersection of fine beer and fine spirits,” and with Alternate Takes 4, they feature Dogfish Head’s American Single Malt Whiskey finished in 74% Utopias barrels from Samuel Adams. It’s also finished in 26% Oloroso Sherry barrels.

The result, they say? A whiskey with complex notes of dried fruits, cedar wood and a slight nuttiness with overtones of dark cherries and port wine.

Dogfish Head’s Alternate Takes whiskey series is inspired by the analog age of music, when artists would record take after take to experiment with alternate sounds until the final product hits the vinyl. Dogfish Head’s distillers say they embrace that same spirit of experimentation to create harmonious, one-of-a-kind drinking experiences.

Alternate Takes Volume 4, the whiskey itself, spent three years in its original barrel before being finished for about seven months in the Samuel Adams Utopias Barrels and a few more months in the Oloroso Sherry barrels.

The whiskey clocks in at 86 proof, 43% ABV, and will be for sale in limited quantities in DE, MD, NJ, NY, WA and HI starting mid-May. The whiskey has a suggested retail price of $54.99 for a 750ml bottle.
