Chicken Cock American Whiskey Gets A Cherry Flavored Expression

CHICKEN COCK AMERICAN WHISKEY CHERRY COLA INFUSIONChicken Cock American Whiskey. The name doesn’t exactly inspire confidence for me as far as modern quality whiskey goes, especially when you consider these guys do flavored whiskies in aluminum bottles that can be chilled for use in shots. Still, I do try to cover as wide a range of whiskey as possible, so here’s a little something about this brand’s new cherry flavor offering.

Dubbed Chicken Cock American Whiskey Cherry Bounce, this new spirit from wine and spirits branding outfit Island Club Brands is said to put its own spin on American founding father and president George Washington’s favorite liquor, which was his “wife Martha’s recipe for Cherry Bounce, one of 18th century America’s most popular and high-spirited beverages.” The 21st century version infuses whiskey with “natural cherry cola flavor.”

At present there are no tasting notes for this 70 proof flavored whiskey that was “handcrafted in N. Charleston, S.C,” but I’m going to go out on a limb here and say you’ll probably get some cherry flavor out of this 🙂 It is available now at select retailers throughout the South, and joins several other flavored offerings.

As for the Chicken Cock brand, it reportedly actually has quite a tale to tell. The original version of this whiskey “was infamously a staple of Prohibition-era speakeasies, including the Cotton Club, where it would be smuggled inside in non-descript tin cans.” It was said to have been smuggled down from Canada after Prohibition started, but after this era ended the brand, along with many other significant American whiskey brands of the 19th and early 20th centuries, died off because of shifting American drinking patterns. For better or worse it has now be resurrected for this new line up.
