About:

Yellow Spot is the sweet spot, literally, of the Spot Whiskey range from Midleton Distillery. If Green is your easy-drinking intro and Blue is your cask strength heavy-hitter, Yellow plays the smooth operator – elegant, full of charm, and just complex enough to keep you coming back. The elusive Red Spot is everything combined. These whiskeys are all still pure Midleton Distillery magic, and for now at least, Midleton still sits comfortably at the top of the proverbial pot-still mountain.

What makes Yellow Spot special is the use of Malaga casks, a pretty rare choice in the Irish whiskey world, adding an extra layer of rich fruit and sweet spice. It’s matured for 12 years across bourbon, sherry, and Malaga—bringing both the structure and the sweetness that ends up in the glass.
Appearance:
A warm, golden hue. Like rich, fresh honey in a glass.
Nose:
It opens with that unmistakable Irish pot still profile of fruit and spice but it’s creamy and inviting.

You get ripe peaches, red apples, and a little baked custard. There’s black pepper, some earthy spice too but just enough toasted oak to ground it. I even got a flash of chestnut and maybe a barley cereal note.
Palate:
This is where the Malaga cask earns its keep. It starts sweet, think honey, peaches, and crème brûlée—but quickly followed by some pot still heat. There’s a beautiful creamy milk chocolate mid-palate that’s addictive. It builds in waves: fruit, spice, chocolate, repeat. Honestly, the journey here is the reward.
Finish:
Medium-long, with lingering sweetness and a drying tannic note from the cask influence. There’s more oak, a little spice, and a lasting impression of warm, juicy fruit – that seems to be the main thing that keeps me coming back for this one.
Comments:
Yellow Spot is a whiskey that knows exactly what it’s doing. It delivers a refined, richly layered Irish pot still experience that showcases everything that’s great about Midleton distillate.

The Malaga cask adds complexity without ever dominating the experience, and as part of the broader Spot lineup, it’s an essential step in the journey. If you’re looking for an Irish whiskey with range, balance, and real character, Yellow Spot is a solid choice and easier to find than any of the other spots, save Green.
