Tasting Notes:

About:
Atom Brand’s Wormtub celebrates the bold character imparted by traditional worm‑tub condensers, a hallmark of older‑style distillation. Sourced from an undisclosed Speyside distillery and aged for a decade, this whisky is finished in sherry casks and bottled at natural cask strength. A dram that ticks all the boxes.
Appearance:
A light mahogany with a warm russet glow.
Nose:
Rich, sherried aromas draw you in. Brown sugar, boxed raisins, fig jam, and poached apples in caramel syrup. As you dig deeper, it becomes apparent that this is not just another sherry bomb. You then start to find lemon peel and light florals on the nose, with cooked honey, maple, and pecan pastries, and fruit‑salad chews. Subtlety and nuance find their place here.
Palate:
A powerful, oil‑rich arrival. Tart red fruits, cooling menthol, and cranberry‑dry tannins lead the charge. You catch fleeting hints of sulphur, which has been tamed by a robust malt that starts to reveal itself. It’s clear the spirit and cask work in harmony; neither dominates.
Finish:
Long, warming and satisfying, with the lingering tingle of spearmint that is very reminiscent of a high-quality American rye. Followed by candied fruit and baking spices that keep drawing you back in for another sip.
Comments:
This is a confident dram, and it has all the qualities we love in a wormtub whisky; rich, chewy, and generous. That classic signature brings weight and meatiness, while the sherry cask adds the perfect sweetness and spice to balance things out. It’s not a shy dram, it’s unapologetically full‑flavoured and in perfect harmony. This is a whisky fan’s whisky. Affordable, dependable, and delicious.
