Tasting Notes

About:

The flagship bottling from the Hebridean Isle of Mull’s Tobermory distillery, this 12-Year-Old single malt was launched in 2019, with the release celebrating Tobermory distillery resuming production after a two-year break. The Tobermory 12-Year-Old is matured in American oak casks, before being bottled at 46.3% ABV.
Appearance:
Golden Honey
Nose:
Soft aromas of vanilla, orange peel citrus, and malt barley cereals open, giving way to stone fruits lead by apricots and peaches, and butterscotch sweetness. There’s a slight maritime air note in the background.
Palate:
The palate opens with sweet orange citrus and a slight oiliness. Malty notes lead into caramel and vanilla accompanied by sweet stone fruits of apricot and peach, with a hint of blackcurrant. Spicy oak follows, before notes of cinnamon and white pepper.
Finish:
Medium-long finish, with flashes of orange citrus, oaky wood and malt.
Comments:
The Tobermory 12-Year-Old is a smooth and rounded single malt balancing stone fruits, caramel sweetness and spice. This is an accessible entry level single malt for those looking to get into whisky, or for fans of a gentler lighter whisky style or bourbon cask maturation.
I enjoyed the combination of malty and caramel notes. An uncomplicated and easy drinking whisky.
