Tasting Notes

About:

Made with Maris Otter barley, distilled and aged among old apple orchards on the family farm in Herefordshire, England. This is a 10-year-old English whisky limited to just 2,700 bottles.
Appearance:
Golden Orange
Nose:
Fresh shortbread biscuits and caramel sauce. Milk chocolate, orange pith, orange bitters, raspberry sauce and mint.
Palate:
Super fruit driven: orange, rhubarb and peach. Some nice black tea notes with liquorice and ginseng. Does turn nicely earthy and herb driven with those black tea and peach notes staying at the core of it. Some very nice notes of ginger and Angostura bitters, the taste of the first sip of an Old Fashioned cocktail.
Finish:
Leans into that earthy bitterness, that I am quite enjoying. It’s got some nice spiciness and rounded edges to the final flavours. Red chilli, coriander seeds, gentian root, black tea, white pepper and cream soda.
Comments:
It’s got some very interesting flavour profiles that keep me going back to it, but I don’t know if I could ever justify the price for those flavour profiles.

English whisky has taken off and is soaring through the sky, but it’s the brands that have whiskies as interesting as this, with similar flavours for about half the price, sometimes a little less. It’s a strong product but I don’t see everyone jumping over themselves to go out and add it to their collection, despite it being a perfect summer weather pour.
