Tasting Notes

About:

Prakaan’s inaugural single malts have been named ‘The Tribuna Series’. Inspired by the wall’s three fortified layers and representing Thai history, provenance and passion that is woven into every step of their creation.

This is the Prakaan Select Cask, aged exclusively in ex-bourbon casks.
Appearance:
Golden
Nose:
Lemony, fresh and sweet. There are little traces of mint, treacle and creamed honey that give the spirit some weight.
Palate:
Lots of cake batter and lemon zest, also a really nice biscuit note to the whole thing. Sweet caramel sauce, icing sugar, royal icing, touches of fresh malted barley, a touch of alcohol an some gentle sweet spices that round out the back of the flavour.
Finish:
Big hits of fresh oak, mint sprigs, sage and pine resin. SOme of those sweeter notes of icing, powdered sugar and cake mix are all ion there, too. It’s balanced, for sure, but has a welcome heat at the end to show off the climate in which it was matured. The whisky may not be very old, but the oak influences are very present.
Comments:
This is fun, fresh, interesting and affordable in the grand scheme of new releases in the world whisky territory. I’d be interested to see how it would develop after a few more years in the casks, seeing how the distillery will manage those huge fluctuations in heat and humidity.
