About:

Isle of Skye Cigar Reserve Whisky. Cigar Reserve whisky is not a new concept but personally (likely due to my proclivity for Bourbon) I have seen these releases in the Bourbon world. Usually more robust and designed to pair directly against a specific type or blend of cigar. Some blends require a full-body, or light cigar, to maximize the flavor profile of the whiskey.

These blends can be a lot of fun and really try to show off the master blenders techniques. Allowing them to really dig in on the depth of flavors with a pairing in mind. When these blends work the whiskey can really sing, and for those who also enjoy a fine smokeable with their whisky, these blends can be highly sought after.
Appearance:
Clear copper color with thin legs which didn’t really linger on the glass. Tasted neat in a Glencairn.
Nose:
Blackberries, soft bourbon oak, subtle black tea and orange citrus.
Palate:
Medium body that is smooth across the tongue and light.

Flavor starts with bright white sugars, dry oak, sherry wine, nice pepper “pops” and a good smokey hit at the back end.
Finish:
The hold is of a good length without lingering. Profile of smoke and oak which is a nice balance without being too strong. A nice black tea fades around the palate as well.
Comments:
Honestly quite a nice albeit soft Scotch. There is a nice exploration into mature malts and peat smoke. This is a blend so there is a lot of opportunity to balance flavors and add accents as desired. I can really appreciate that this should be paired with a cigar of possible a medium body. You’d want something to provide a compliment, at least to me, without trying to drag your palate one way of the other. Easy to sip on with a good smoke and a good friend.
