Tasting Notes:

About:
Bruichladdich is famed for it’s continual experimentation and varied releases. While solidly in the Islay region, most Bruichladdich expressions are not peated, leaving their peat work to the famed Port Charlotte and Octomore bottlings from the same distillery. Treating grain the way the French treat Burgundy grapes, there is a lot of interest here in interesting grains and treatments. As an example, the Laddie Rye is said to be a mixed grain product, adding a significant amount of rye (45%) to the common barley (55%).
Appearance:
Watery clear, light, almost yellow.
Nose:
Piney but sweet notes redolent of molasses; no malty nose
Palate:
Very short sweet burst of caramel, then a high lemony note. Slowly the malty flavor subtly presents itself. Midway very light burn which then resolves into an almost alcohol creme brulee. Mild flowery but rich hearty flavor.
Finish:
The finish in the back of your throat is cherry, the fade to nothing but wanting to get another taste is fast.
Comments:
This is a rich, complex bottle, very much in the Laddie tradition of new ideas presented in a comfortable, confident wrapper. I’d love to see the mashbill and cask treatments.
