WhistlePig Whiskey has transformed Louisville’s original 1911 security bank at 403 East Market Street into The WhistlePig Vault, an immersive whiskey destination featuring rare tastings and bottle customization experiences. The Vermont-based rye whiskey producer’s new location between Whiskey Row and NuLu opened to the public on December 5, coinciding with Repeal Day.
The venue marks WhistlePig’s first direct-to-consumer location outside its Vermont Farm & Distillery.

“WhistlePig was founded 880 miles from the Bourbon heartland, but the early seeds were planted here in Kentucky,” said WhistlePig CEO Charles Gibb. “The Vault pays homage to our founding Distiller, Dave Pickerell, who got his start in the Bluegrass State before going off the grid to start the Rye Revolution in Vermont.”
The restored pre-prohibition bank building showcases WhistlePig’s portfolio of rye, bourbon, and single malt whiskeys through multiple experiential offerings.
The Bank Lobby Bar serves cocktails, including “The Flying Pig,” made with WhistlePig 10 Snout-to-Tail Bourbon and delivered via pneumatic ATM tube.
Private and shared tastings take place in the Mezzanine Blending Room, where visitors can craft their own blend of WhistlePig Old World Rye – Aged 12 Years.
The Whiskey Exchange retail area allows guests to dip, seal, and stamp WhistlePig 10 PiggyBank Rye Limited Edition bottles.
The original bank vault now displays WhistlePig’s rarest bottles, including a complete collection of The Boss Hog series.
“Returning to Kentucky with The Vault is a full-circle moment for us,” Gibb continued.
“To truly push the boundaries of American whiskey making, WhistlePig had to build a place apart and craft new and unique whiskeys with zero generations of family tradition. We’ve made our own rules and are proud to share that with Bourbon Country friends and connoisseurs.”
The opening follows WhistlePig’s January 2025 launch of WhistlePig 10 Snout-to-Tail Bourbon, positioned as the Kentucky partner to its flagship WhistlePig 10 Small Batch Rye.
WhistlePig was founded in 2007 on a 500-acre farm in Shoreham, Vermont, by entrepreneur Raj Peter Bhakta.
The brand has gained recognition for its aged rye whiskeys and experimental finishing techniques, as well as its witty and irreverent branding.
