A major charity whisky auction featuring several hundred bottles and two cask lots will run throughout the 2025 Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival, raising funds for the Rothes Sports Development Group. The online auction opens at 10:00 on April 29 and closes at 16:00 on May 4, mirroring the festival week.
Whisky for Rothes has brought together distilleries, businesses, and individuals from across Speyside and beyond, all donating bottles and casks to support sport and community projects in the village of Rothes.
The auction catalog spans well-known favorites, rare collectible releases, and sought-after international bottlings. Headline lots include a Caperdonich 50 Year Old, which retails for $10,050 (£8,000), a Gordon & MacPhail Connoisseurs Choice Glen Grant 1994 30 Year Old (one of 46 bottles), and a Glenfiddich Grand Yozakura 29 Year Old.
Additional highlights feature a Glen Grant Limited Edition Cask Strength Port Finish, a Glen Scotia 25 Year Old, a Lagavulin Distillery Exclusive 2017, a Ballindalloch Members Only Estate Club Release, and The Macallan Archival Series Folio 8. Collectors will also find a Yamazaki 12 Year Old alongside rare single cask bottlings from England, Wales, Ireland, Japan, and Tasmania.
Two cask donations anchor the auction. The first is a first-fill Pedro Ximénez hogshead from Ballindalloch Distillery, offered in partnership with Speyside Cooperage. The cask will be filled at Ballindalloch in 2026, and the winning bidder can visit the distillery to fill the cask personally. Ballindalloch is Scotland’s first single estate distillery, operated by the Macpherson-Grant family with a fully manual approach to whisky making.
The second lot is a first-fill sherry hogshead from Speyside Cooperage filled with Kilchoman Distillery new make spirit, donated by Caley Casks.
Rothes Sports Development Group said it is “extremely grateful to the Macpherson-Grant family, Caley Casks, Richard Forsyth and Speyside Cooperage for their generosity in supporting this community-led charity auction.”
All proceeds will be reinvested locally, supporting facilities and opportunities for people in Rothes. The auction is being delivered in partnership with Just Whisky Auction, providing a secure online bidding platform accessible 24 hours a day throughout the festival.
Further details and access to the auction are available on the Spirit of Speyside festival website.
