Tamdhu has released a new Whisky Sour cocktail recipe built around its Tamdhu 12 Year Old expression. The serve, named the Tamdhu PX Sour, arrives ahead of Whisky Sour Day on 25 August. It pairs the brand’s single malt with Spanish PX Sherry.

The serve is designed to draw out what the brand calls the “unique, sherried taste notes” of Tamdhu. The whisky is matured exclusively in Oloroso sherry oak casks.

Tamdhu is distilled and matured on the banks of the River Spey in Scotland. It uses casks sourced from Jerez in Spain.

READ THE STORY

The Tamdhu PX Sour calls for 50ml of Tamdhu 12 Year Old, 20ml of fresh lemon juice, 10ml of sugar syrup, 20ml of PX Sherry and one egg white. A vegan version can substitute aquafaba, a vegan egg white substitute, or a cocktail foamer. Angostura bitters are an optional garnish.

To make the serve, add ice to a shaker and pour in all ingredients except the Angostura. Shake and strain, then remove the ice and dry shake without ice. Double strain into a glass and serve either neat or on the rocks, with an optional Angostura swirl to decorate.

Tamdhu 12 Year Old is bottled at 43% ABV in a 70cl format. It carries a recommended retail price of £56.

The distillery was founded in 1897. The distillery was designed by Charles C. Doig and located on the banks of the River Spey. Every drop of Tamdhu 12 Year Old is aged in first-fill and refill American and European oak Oloroso sherry casks. These are sourced from the cooperages and bodegas of Jerez in Spain’s “sherry triangle.”

After a brief closure in 2010, Tamdhu was revived in 2012 by Ian Macleod Distillers.
