The Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival has surpassed £500,000 in ticket sales for the first time in its 27-year history. The six-day festival ran from April 29, 2026, featuring more than 600 events across Scotland’s Speyside region, with almost 60 events selling out on day one.
The festival, widely regarded as one of the world’s largest whisky showcases, drew visitors from across the globe. Nearly 7,000 tickets were sold on launch day in February, with international customers accounting for over 60% of total sales.
Attendees traveled from Mexico, Scandinavia, the Netherlands, and Canada, underscoring the event’s growing international appeal.
Speyside is home to roughly a third of Scotland’s distilleries, and the festival provided rare access to 12 normally closed sites. Tormore, Craigellachie, and Dalmunach were among those opening their doors, and they proved to be some of the most popular events on the program.
Highlights extended well beyond traditional tastings. A falconry display at Tormore, a canoe trip down the River Spey, and a silent disco at Glenlivet — where guests sampled expressions of the 12-year-old single malt — reflected the diversity of the calendar.
Henry Angus, chairman of the festival, said: “There has never been a more important year for us to support the whisky sector. With whisky sales declining, but festival sales increasing, our ability to draw thousands of visitors to Speyside is vital to the local economy.”
“We’re extremely proud to have broken all records again this year and to prove that we are creating a world-class calendar of events with wide appeal,” Angus added. “There are some incredible opportunities, some of which are unique, leaving visitors to feel like they’ve been part of something truly magical. There’s nothing quite like it.”
The Spirit of Speyside organization also announced the return of Distilled, its food and drink festival, after a hiatus. The event is scheduled for September 11-12, 2026, at UHI Moray in Elgin.
Tamdhu 21 Year Old was named overall winner of the 2026 Spirit of Speyside Whisky Awards. Additional gold medals went to Aberlour 12 Year Old, Craigellachie 17 Year Old Spirit of Speyside Single Cask Limited Edition, and Tamdhu Distinction III.
David Stewart of William Grant & Sons received the Spirit of Speyside Award, while David Craig was named festival ambassador.
