So Good Soju Launches in India via Penguin Overseas

Penguin Overseas, one of India’s leading importers and distributors of premium spirits, has launched So Good Soju in India, marking its formal entry into the country’s emerging low-ABV category. The locally developed brand debuted in April 2026 with both still and sparkling variants, available initially in Maharashtra and Haryana.

Developed and manufactured in India, So Good positions itself among the early entrants in the country’s nascent locally produced soju segment.

The launch builds on Penguin Overseas’ longstanding association with the category. The company first introduced soju to India more than 15 years ago through imported brands such as Jinro and has since developed deep category expertise.

Soju is one of the world’s most widely consumed spirits, with brands like Jinro ranking as the best-selling globally by volume, driven largely by South Korea’s drinking culture and the growing global influence of Korean entertainment and cuisine.

In India, that cultural familiarity is beginning to translate into consumer interest, particularly among younger demographics seeking lighter, easy-to-consume options.

Jaspreet Singh, founder and CEO of Penguin Overseas, commented on the launch: “Our goal with So Good is to challenge conventional taste profiles and offer Indian consumers a world-class drinking experience.”

He added: “With the rising appreciation for craft and local innovation, we believe this product will resonate with Soju connoisseurs and new-age consumers alike.”

The brand currently offers two ranges. The Still Craft range launches with Peach and Green Apple variants, while the Sparkling range includes Yuzu Lime and K-Bomb. Additional flavors, including Green Grape, Strawberry, Blueberry, and Lemon, are expected to follow.

So Good is currently available in Mumbai, Pune, Gurgaon, Panipat, Faridabad, Karnal, Panchkula, and Sonipat. The company plans to expand into Delhi, Karnataka, Punjab, Uttarakhand, and Tamil Nadu in a phased rollout.

Penguin Overseas brings more than 17 years of experience in introducing and building global beverage categories in India. The company played a pioneering role in establishing soju in the Indian market and maintains a strong distribution network across key urban centers.

The So Good launch reflects a broader industry shift toward local innovation within global formats, as Indian producers increasingly tailor internationally popular categories to suit domestic tastes and consumption occasions. India’s low-ABV segment remains relatively underdeveloped compared to mature markets, but growing health consciousness and evolving social drinking habits among younger consumers are driving new demand for lighter spirit alternatives.
