Powerscourt Distillery Saved From Receivership
Fercullen Whiskey, produced at Powerscourt Distillery, is an award-winning brand.

Altiva Management Inc. has reached an agreement to acquire key assets from Ireland’s Powerscourt Distillery, which entered receivership in June 2025. The transaction includes the Fercullen Irish whiskey brand, a large volume of bulk whiskey, and the lease for the distillery and visitor center in County Wicklow.

The deal is expected to be finalized in the coming weeks. It signals a promising shift for Powerscourt Distillery, which, for the last six months, has had an uncertain future.

Powerscourt Distillery entered receivership after experiencing cashflow issues and trade disruptions due to the unstable global tariff situations of the past year.

International advisory firm Interpath was appointed as the receiver for the business on 26 June 2025.

The distillery has remained operational throughout the receivership.

This process will conclude with the sale to Altiva, which provides a significant injection of capital.

All current staff are expected to transfer to the new owner once the transaction is complete. The business will continue to operate under its existing brand.

According to The Whisky Wire, “The Receiver will now seek to sell the remaining bulk whiskey inventory, including stock acquired from Cooley Distillery several years ago.”

Located on the Powerscourt Estate, the 20,000-square-foot facility began distilling in 2018. The award-winning Fercullen brand has helped drive the global growth of the Irish whiskey category, with distribution across the globe.

Roger Duggan, CEO of Powerscourt Distillery, said: “This is a great day for Powerscourt Distillery, having secured a strong and supportive new ownership structure. It marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for our business.”

Duggan added: “With the backing of Altiva, we are well-positioned to build on our exceptional brand reputation with our premium product, Fercullen Irish Whiskey, which is loved by customers around the world. Our customers, suppliers, and staff have been a tremendous support throughout this journey, and we are proud to have maintained our place among the leading whiskey brands globally.”

Adam Morgan, director of Altiva Management Inc., also commented on the acquisition.

Morgan said: “We see tremendous potential in Powerscourt Distillery and are committed to supporting its talented team as they look to grow and thrive in the coming years.”

He continued: “Our focus will be on strengthening the business’s market position, growing its brand, and investing in innovation to ensure sustainable success. We appreciate the craftsmanship and time it takes to produce quality whiskey such as Fercullen and look forward to supporting Powerscourt Distillery on this exciting journey.”
