Nikka Whisky is releasing a new limited-edition expression, Nikka From The Barrel Extra Marriage, in the United Kingdom to celebrate a brand milestone. The launch commemorates the 40th anniversary of the original Nikka From The Barrel and is now available from 10 November alongside a collectible gift set.

The original Nikka From The Barrel was first released in 1985. It has since become one of the most recognizable products in the Japanese whisky category, known for its minimalist square bottle and high-strength bottling.

The new Extra Marriage edition was created to honor this legacy. The expression blends grain whisky from Nikka Whisky’s Coffey stills with malt whiskies primarily from the Yoichi and Miyagikyo distilleries.

To create the anniversary bottling, the blend undergoes a cask marriage period twice as long as the original. According to the brand, the result is a whisky that “balances vibrancy, elegance, and layered complexity.”

It is presented in its signature bottle, now featuring a new silver label stamped with the words “Extra Marriage,” which the company calls a “tribute to 40 years of expertise.”

Official notes from the brand state the whisky opens with honey, beeswax, and tropical pineapple, with a “gentle, elegant smoky character.” The palate is said to deliver candied lemon, cocoa powder, and roasted cereals, ending with a “flinty, salty peat note.”

Nikka is also releasing a limited-edition gift set, designed as an “immersion into the blend.”

The set contains three bottles: the new Nikka From The Barrel Extra Marriage, Malt Pieces of the Barrel, and Grain Pieces of the Barrel.

This trio offers consumers a chance to explore the key components of the blend. The Malt Pieces expression showcases the “bold notes of peat and smoke,” while the Grain Pieces bottling highlights the “softer, more rounded grain component.”

The collection was previously offered at La Maison du Whisky before its UK introduction.

Nikka From The Barrel Extra Marriage will have a recommended retail price of £51 (~US$67). The three-bottle gift set will retail for £275 (~US$360).
