Milam & Greene Unabridged Volume 5 Bourbon Released

Milam & Greene Whiskey has released Unabridged Volume 5, the fifth edition in its cask-strength bourbon series. The limited-edition expression made its official debut at the Kentucky Bourbon Festival and is part of the Texas distillery’s Blender’s Reserve Collection.

Bottled at 121.6 proof (60.8% ABV), the bourbon is uncut at cask strength and non-chill filtered.

The series is inspired by the philosophy of an unedited book, offered “exactly as intended.”

Volume 5 marries select straight bourbons from Kentucky, Tennessee and Texas.

The blend relies on Milam & Greene’s signature “Texification” process, which uses the Texas Hill Country heat and dramatic temperature swings to drive deep interaction between the wood and the liquid.

According to the brand, the process harmonizes “the rich, creamy palate of aged Kentucky bourbon, the smooth finish of Tennessee whiskey, and the bold, vibrant spice of Texas distillate.”

For this edition, whiskey expert Fred Minnick joined the Milam & Greene team to select the liquid.

The blend draws on seven distinct mashbills, including the distillery’s malted rye bourbon. The oldest component is a 10-year-old Tennessee straight bourbon, while a 6.5-year-old Kentucky straight bourbon with malted rye makes up the largest share at 34%.

“The Unabridged collection has always been about transparency and the art of blending without constraints,” said Marlene Holmes, master distiller at Milam & Greene.

“With Volume 5, we wanted to honor the history of the series by marrying together barrels of different ages and regional characters, creating a beautiful whiskey that stands as one of our most cohesive projects to date.”

Rikk Munroe, master whiskey maker, added: “Managing the marriage of seven distinct mashbills, including our unique malted rye bourbon, required meticulous precision.”

He continued: “The Texas heat really pushed the rich, savory oak character of the older Kentucky and Tennessee lots to integrate beautifully with the vibrant sweetness of our hometown distillate, resulting in a remarkably luxurious whiskey.”

The official tasting notes from the brand describe a mahogany color, with a nose of Demerara sugar, cinnamon, dusty oak, cocoa powder and peach cobbler. The palate offers fig bar, sticky toffee pudding, cinnamon rolls and stone fruit, followed by a medium-long finish of peach, tropical fruit, marzipan, nutmeg and fresh mint.

Unabridged Volume 5 is available for a suggested retail price of $94.99 (£70.27, ₹9,066) via the Milam & Greene website, at the distillery and at select retailers nationwide.

The release joins past sold-out expressions including The Answer Straight Bourbon and the Castle Hill Series.
