Jim Beam has launched a new bourbon expression targeting younger drinkers and daytime occasions. The 70-proof Sunshine Blend combines traditional bourbon with brown rice bourbon to create a lighter alternative to standard offerings.
The bourbon will retail for $19.99 and is now available at select retailers across North America. The release comes as distilleries respond to growing demand for lower-alcohol spirits among millennial and Gen Z consumers.

Jim Beam Sunshine Blend Targets Casual Drinking Occasions
The new expression blends 65% of Jim Beam’s classic 4-year bourbon with 35% brown rice bourbon. The brown rice component uses a mash bill of 55% corn, 35% brown rice, and 10% malted barley.
“This isn’t just a new product — it’s a new way to experience Jim Beam,” the company stated in its announcement. The brand recommends serving the bourbon chilled, over ice, or mixed with club soda or lemonade.
Official tasting notes describe “subtle floral and fruity notes complemented by gentle hints of sweet caramel, honey, and vanilla.” The brown rice whiskey contributes to what the distillery calls a “softer grain profile” that increases sweetness while reducing complexity.
Jim Beam Sunshine Blend Joins Growing Low-ABV Category
The launch reflects broader industry trends toward sessionable spirits. Major producers have introduced lower-proof options as consumption patterns shift away from traditional neat pours toward mixed drinks and extended social occasions.
Jim Beam positions the product for brunch with friends, a golden hour BBQ, or game-day hangouts. The suggested serving methods emphasize mixability over traditional bourbon consumption.
The brown rice mash bill is not new to the Jim Beam portfolio. Similar recipes appear in previous releases including Little Book and Basil Hayden expressions, though specific ratios vary between products.
At 70 proof, Sunshine Blend sits below the standard 80-proof minimum for most bourbons. The lower alcohol content aligns with consumer preferences for drinks suitable for afternoon and early evening consumption.
The company suggests a Paloma-inspired cocktail combining one part Sunshine Blend with three parts grapefruit soda, fresh lime juice, and salt. This recommendation further emphasizes the product’s intended use in mixed drinks rather than neat service.
The $19.99 price point positions it competitively within the standard bourbon category despite its specialized production method.
