The Jack Daniel Distillery has announced the very limited release of Jack Daniel’s Special Release Small Batch Rye, a collection of five high-proof Tennessee Rye Whiskey batches sourced from three barrelhouse locations in Lynchburg, Tennessee. The release is available exclusively this month at the distillery’s White Rabbit Bottle Shop, priced at $64.99 per 375 mL bottle.

The five batches were drawn from 129 barrels with entry dates spanning February 2016 to August 2017. Each batch was matured for an average of 10 years across barrelhouses at Coy Hill, Boiler Hill, and Fire Brigade Fields.

Coy Hill, already well known among Jack Daniel’s enthusiasts, produced two of the five batches. The remaining three batches come from Boiler Hill and Fire Brigade Fields, two newer maturation locations within the Lynchburg distillery grounds.

Proof points across the five batches range from 142.7 to 146.1, with all bottles presented at barrel proof.

Jack Daniel’s Master Distiller Chris Fletcher and his team selected each barrel based on intense flavor and high proof characteristics. Fletcher described the project as a showcase for the distillery’s rye whiskey program.

"I believe our Tennessee Rye Whiskey recipe is among the most exciting innovations to come out of the Jack Daniel Distillery in the past two decades," said Fletcher. "In recent years, we began to identify barrels at some of our hidden gem barrelhouses that were simply too low-yielding for other bottlings like Bonded Rye and Single Barrel Rye, but had the potential to produce high character whiskey."

Fletcher added: "This small batch release truly showcases how place and time can create intense, bold flavor that is unmistakably Jack."

The mash bill consists of 70% rye, 18% corn, and 12% malted barley. The whiskey undergoes Jack Daniel’s signature charcoal filtration before maturing in new oak barrels.

Official tasting notes from the brand describe bold aromas of black pepper and burnt oak with notes of spice and caramel, followed by a finish of light cinnamon, leather, and butterscotch. Variations exist from batch to batch.

The release follows Jack Daniel’s continued expansion of its rye whiskey portfolio, which has grown in recent years to include Bonded Rye and Single Barrel Rye expressions. The Special Release Small Batch Rye represents one of the distillery’s most limited offerings to date, with quantities restricted to the White Rabbit Bottle Shop in Lynchburg, Tennessee.
