Independent Stave Company (ISC), the world’s leading producer of premium white oak barrels, has joined the American Whiskey Association (AWA) as a founding member. The partnership strengthens AWA’s mission to unite stakeholders across the American whiskey supply chain “from grain to glass.”

ISC has shaped American whiskey’s character and quality for more than a century through its barrel production. The company’s white oak barrels define the flavor, color and aroma that distinguish American whiskey globally.

“Independent Stave Company represents the literal foundation of our craft,” said Michael Bilello, president and CEO of the American Whiskey Association. “From the American oak forests to the cooperages that craft every barrel, ISC embodies the innovation, integrity, tradition and commitment to sustainability that make American whiskey what it is today.”

Brad Boswell, CEO of Independent Stave Company, emphasized the company’s generational involvement in American whiskey production.

“We are proud to join the American Whiskey Association as a founding member,” Boswell said. “Our company has been part of the American whiskey story for generations. Each barrel we produce reflects our deep respect for the craft, the distillers we serve and the American oak that gives our nation’s whiskey its distinctive character.”

ISC’s addition reinforces AWA’s collaborative approach across the whiskey ecosystem, from farmers and loggers to distillers and global distributors.

The American Whiskey Association launched to protect, promote and lead the American whiskey industry worldwide. Its founding members include Sazerac, Suntory Global Spirits, Campari Group, Pernod Ricard USA, Brown-Forman, Diageo and Independent Stave Company.

Board members comprise Ole Smoky Distillery, Constellation Brands, MGP, CIE, William Grant & Sons and the Distilled Spirits Council of the U.S. (DISCUS).

These members represent the complete supply chain powering the American whiskey industry, united by shared values of craftsmanship, authenticity and growth.

The association aims to expand market access, advocate for fair trade and preserve the authenticity and integrity of American whiskey globally.
