Glasgow Distillery Opens First Whisky Tour Experience
Visitors can explore The Glasgow Distillery, Scotland’s first independent single malt whisky distillery in over 100 years.

Glasgow’s first independent single malt whisky distillery in more than a century has launched public tours, marking a historic moment for Scotland’s whisky industry as visitors gain unprecedented access to the working distillery that revived the city’s whisky-making tradition.

Behind-the-Scenes Whisky Production at Glasgow Distillery

“The Glasgow Distillery Experience is not your average distillery tour. We will be welcoming visitors into the heart of our working distillery,” said Mike Hayward, founder of The Glasgow Distillery.

The Glasgow Distillery Experience, priced at $57 (£45), offers a two-hour journey through the Hillington facility starting July 23. The tour showcases the production of Glasgow 1770 Single Malt Scotch Whisky alongside the distillery’s other spirits including Banditti Club Rum, Makar Gin, and G52 Botanical Vodka.

Visitors begin in the tasting room before entering the distillery lab, where they learn about new product development and cask finish selection for the experimental Small Batch Series. The experience includes a live coopering demonstration from one of Scotland’s few remaining on-site coopers, followed by the opportunity to sample cask strength single malt drawn directly from the barrel.

Exclusive Whisky Tastings and Historic Revival

The tour concludes with guided tastings of past and present Glasgow 1770 releases, including access to a tours-only exclusive bottling. The first exclusive is a 7-year-old peated single malt, initially matured in virgin American white oak before extended secondary maturation in a fresh Oloroso Sherry hogshead.

The tour launch follows the distillery’s recent milestone of releasing its first 10-Year-Old whisky earlier this year, which sold out in under 20 minutes. This commemorative bottling marked a decade of whisky production at the facility.

Located in Hillington, a short taxi ride from Glasgow city center, the distillery represents the revival of independent whisky making in Scotland’s largest city. The facility, which opened in 2012, was named after the original Glasgow Distillery Company that closed in 1902. The comprehensive tour offers insights into every stage of spirit production, from innovation to maturation.

Tickets are available on select weekdays through the distillery’s website, with tours limited to small groups to ensure an intimate experience of this working distillery.
