The Distilled Spirits Council of the United States (DISCUS) has unveiled Spirit Forward, a multi-channel campaign celebrating the role of distilled spirits in American history, culture, and hospitality. The initiative launched on Patriots’ Day, timed to coincide with the nation’s 250th anniversary.

The campaign debuted with a flagship video filmed at the historic Water Wheel Tavern in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. A split-screen narrative pairs Revolutionary Era reenactors with modern-day drinkers and professionals.

The video illustrates how spirits have fostered connection and conversation from colonial taverns to today’s bars and restaurants.

“Long before America had a constitution, it had distilleries and taverns, places where people gathered, exchanged ideas and found fellowship,” said Chris Swonger, president and CEO of the Distilled Spirits Council. “Our Spirit Forward campaign is about honoring the spirits industry’s past and toasting to its future.”

Swonger added: “This is a celebration of a unique and vibrant industry that, for more than two and a half centuries, has continued to evolve, innovate and bring people together.”

The video is supported by targeted advertising as part of a broader digital and social media push across DISCUS platforms. The campaign aims to reinforce among adult consumers, media and policymakers that distilled spirits have been woven into America’s story since its founding.

A dedicated campaign webpage features a timeline tracing key moments in the spirits industry from colonial America to the present day. It also includes historic recipes such as Fish House Punch and Martha Washington’s Rum Punch.

The site spotlights George Washington’s Distillery at Mount Vernon, highlighting the first president’s role as one of America’s earliest and most successful distillers. It includes quotes reflecting Washington’s appreciation for spirits and moderation, as well as a rare letter discussing the strong demand for his whiskey.

A “Destination Distillery” section showcases distilleries across the country, from historic sites and small craft producers to iconic legacy operations.

DISCUS represents the leading producers and marketers of distilled spirits in the United States. The trade body has long advocated for the spirits industry on issues ranging from taxation and trade policy to responsible drinking initiatives. Spirit Forward marks one of the organization’s most prominent consumer-facing efforts in recent years, anchoring the industry’s cultural narrative to a landmark national milestone.
