WhistlePig Whiskey has developed a plan to tackle the global maple shortage along with the legendary Super Troopers from the eponymous 2001 comedy movie. The “maple-chugging troopers” and the famed whiskey brand have teamed up to ramp up production of WhistlePig’s Barrel-Aged Maple Syrup, one of the key ingredients in the brand’s Maple Old Fashioned.

The Super Troopers, played by the Broken Lizard comedy troupe, are famous for their love of maple syrup-chugging competitions and feel strongly that the shortage needs to be solved.

As such, they have acquired WhistlePig’s maple sugarbush and Old Fashioned sugar shack in what the distillery describes as “a completely above-board transaction at an abandoned airfield for an undisclosed sum of cash weighing 150 kilos”.

Anxious to secure maple syrup stocks for future films, Jay Chandrasekhar of the Troopers said: “Chugging syrup is kind of our thing, and this heavenly hooch needs to be preserved! It’s our duty and honor to keep the Maple Old Fashioneds flowing from the maple mecca that is Vermont. Just don’t forget the mini waffle garnish — the only thing that pairs with syrup better than whiskey is waffles. 1, 2, 3… do eet”.

To educate the public about the devastating maple shortage, and their mission to solve this issue, the Super Troopers will be in Los Angeles to serve up whiskey and waffles complete with WhistlePig’s maple syrup.

The Troopers recently sampled Maple Old Fashioneds containing WhistlePig PiggyBack Rye and Barrel-Aged Maple Syrup in a PSA for the momentous partnership. As it turns out, the WhistlePig Barrel-Aged Maple Syrup is perfect for enjoying over waffles or in a Maple Old Fashioned.

To help you enjoy the Barrel-Aged Maple Syrup any way you see fit, WhistlePig has put together a Whiskey & Waffles Kit. The kit contains a bottle of WhistlePig PiggyBack Rye, a bottle of the brand’s maple syrup, and a waffle iron.

The distillery has also released a limited edition Maple Syrup: Trooper’s Edition, paying tribute to Vermont’s finest.

Mitch Mahar, Distiller and “mustache aficionado” at WhistlePig is equally excited by the culinary prospects of using rye whiskey and maple syrup: “Our Barrel-Aged Maple Syrup perfectly balances the bold flavor and overproof strength you’ll find in our whiskeys. Waffle garnish optional, but highly recommended. Bonus points if you add Rye as an ingredient to your waffle mix!”.
