A few years back, spirits giant Diageo did a celebrity tie-in with legendary soccer star David Beckham, the results of which were the fancy bottled Haig Club single grain Scotch whisky. This release exposed a new generation to grain whisky, a whisky type often considered not worthy to be released on its own merits. Beckham and Diageo are now back again with Haig Club Clubman, said to be “designed to be different, stylish and modern whilst incorporating the House of Haig’s almost 400 year heritage.”

Haig Club Clubman, according to Diageo, will initially be available across the United Kingdom, with further markets beyond this to be explored later. Looking at this new expression, one immediately notes its distinct appearance from the initial release. It’s presented in a new bottle design retaining the Haig Club blue glass, and elongates the square style to reportedly create “a new aesthetic and stand-out silhouette.”

As for what’s in this bottling, here’s what’s being said:

Master Distiller and Blender Chris Clark has applied his over 30 years of experience to create the Haig Club Clubman liquid, seeking to make a Scotch Whisky with the perfect combination of distillery character and American Oak influence.  He has matured Haig Club Clubman exclusively in American Oak casks that have previously held Bourbon, allowing the sweet, gentle Single Grain Scotch Whisky from Cameronbridge to interact with the vanilla, butterscotch and sweet toffee flavours found in the ex-bourbon casks. The result is a wonderfully smooth, sweet and enjoyable Scotch Whisky.

“Working closely with Diageo, we look forward to welcoming Clubman into the Haig Club family,” said Beckham in a prepared statement. “From its earliest days, Scotch whisky has attracted people from all over the world with its sophistication, style and distinctive array of flavours. We want to continue in this spirit, bringing to market a special new whisky and introducing new fans to this incredible industry.”

Haig Club Clubman is pricing at £25, or about $35 USD.
