Three-time ASCOT (American Spirits Council of Tasters) Award-winning Boulder Spirits has released their 2023 Cask Strength Bourbon, hot on the heels of the previous expression placing on Fred Minnick’s 2022 list of the Top Ten Whiskeys of the Year. The small craft distillery has made a big splash on the whiskey world and holds great standing within the busy Colorado spirits scene.
Alastair Brogan is the owner of Vapor Distillery, out of which Boulder Spirits operates, and is a Scotsman who moved to the states with his trusty 1,000-gallon Forsyth still in 2011 with his sights set on the crystalline rivers and Rocky Mountain glacier melt of Colorado as an ideal location to create his distilling legacy. With a goal to produce a single malt ‘unique to Colorado with a Scottish accent,’ soon pivoting into the distillation of their award-winning bourbons.
Boulder Spirits 2023 Cask Strength Bourbon enjoys a malted barley-heavy mash bill, offering something different from the typical bourbon flavor profile. The whiskey is aged in a non-temperature-controlled warehouse, allowing the unique Colorado climate to take part in the development of the spirit, alongside the utilization of local terroir.

Vital Stats: Mash bill of 51% Corn, 44% Malted Barley, and 5% Rye. 135.2 Proof (67.6% ABV). Aged 6 Years. SRP $75.99
Appearance: The color of honey-dripped Turkish apricot.
Nose: Notes of grilled peaches atop baked goods, cinnamon, and yams caramelized in brown sugar.
Palate: The whiskey is modestly sweet with a silky mouthfeel. Notes of sugary dried plantains, pecans, and summery, juicy fruits.
