Glenallachie Distillery Gets Major Upgrades To Visitor Center

Scotland’s GlenAllachie Distillery recently announced a plan for major upgrades to its visitor center in the next year.

The new center will feature a state-of-the-art whisky bar and tasting lounge.

The distillery, owned by Scotch whisky legend Billy Walker, is located in the Speyside region of Scotland, near Aberlour. The distillery itself is a full-production facility and has 16 on-site warehouses.

In 2022, GlenAllachie won the honor of “Visitor Attraction of the Year” from the Icons of Whisky, Scotland. The visitor center originally opened in April of 2018 and featured a shop, a tasting room and limited tours.

For the expansion, it was announced, the distillery will see a £600,000 investment, according to information provided by GlenAllachie. A former engineering workshop will be renovated to house the whisky bar, tasting lounge and outdoor seating space with views of Ben Rinnes.

Once opened, the bar will offer The GlenAllachie portfolio of whiskies.

To continue the distillery’s sustainability plan, the expanded areas will be heated using excess energy from the stillhouse.

The GlenAllachie’s Visitor Center is expanding as well. In the past year, the brand named Tracy Sellar as visitor center manager to oversee the expansion and the management of The GlenAllachie’s brand home.

“We’re thrilled to unveil our expanded Visitor Center at The GlenAllachie Distillery after months of planning and preparation,” Sellar said. “As a team, we identified a gap in our offering … the option to enjoy a dram or flight without the need to join a tour. And the new whisky bar, between the indoor and outdoor space, allows for an impressive capacity of 100 people at any one time. As we continue to expand as a visitor attraction, we look forward to a busy summer season with more experiences to offer our guests.”

Sellar described the current tour offerings as:

  • The GlenAllachie Experience (1 hour, £25 per person) – a journey through the production process ending at the tasting room to enjoy four whiskies.
  • The Premium Experience (1 hour 15 minutes, £35 per person) – a tour of the production area, including a detailed discussion of our innovative cask management policy, followed by a tutored tasting of four premium whiskies.
  • The Connoisseurs Tour (2 hours, £60 per person) – running every Thursday afternoon, the experience is aimed at ‘whisky geeks’ who want an in-depth tour, including a warehouse visit, before enjoying a tasting of five of their finest drams.

The GlenAllachie Visitor Center is currently open every day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the summer season (April-October). Tours can be booked on their website here.
