Rare Irish Whiskies Turn Up In 26, 30 Year Old Teeling Releases

The Teeling Whiskey Company in Dublin, Ireland is said to be the first new operation of its kind in over 125 years in that region. While those behind it get things up to speed to produce their own in house product, there are plenty of single malt barrels lying around in other places they can source from. Such looks to be the case with its two latest rare whiskey offerings, a 26-year-old and 30-year-old, the latter of which is described as the oldest bottle of Irish single malt recently released.

The Teeling 26 Year Old Gold Reserve and 30 Year Old Platinum Reserve Irish Single Malt releases price for around $600 and $2,000, respectively and are very limited bottlings, again respectively with just 1,000 and 250 being yielded from aging casks. In case you are curious as to where they are sourced from, Teeling sadly did not reveal that information.

What is known is that the Platinum release was double distilled back in 1983 and allowed to rest for 30 years in bourbon cask before being bottled up. The Gold version, meanwhile, was doubled distilled in 1987 and matured firstly in bourbon casks before being allowed to marry in white Burgundy wine barrels.

Tasting notes from the distillery for each are as follows:

Gold:

Nose
Rose water, white grapes, tropical fruit, toffee, caramel, coffee, earthy

Taste
Fresh cut grass and herbs gives way to spices, coconut, wood, tropical fruit, kiwi, strawberry, and pineapple

Finish
The Tropical fruit continues with peach, lemon, and limes adding to the mix.

Platinum:

Nose
Vanilla, Cream, Orange, Toast, Jam

Taste
Light and fresh, well balanced sweetness blends into notes of vanilla, sandalwood, all spice, and orchard fruits

Finish
Deep and inviting as the spice comes back and then goes away again.
