Tasting Notes

About:

Bushmills Distillery was opened in 1608 and based on that is considered the oldest licensed whisky distillery in the world. The Black Bush bottling is marked by its triple distilled liquid and finishing in Oloroso Sherry casks. Bottled at 40% ABV in a trim looking 750 ML bottle.
Appearance:
Darker than its non-sherry finished version, its a yellow straw color with a pleasing liveliness in the sun.
Nose:
Subtle, quiet maltiness, and a whiff of brown sugar, fresh cut garden produce
Palate:
Smooth and flavorful, quiet, with only a touch of heat. A non sweet molasses must reflect the olorosso, black currant, and a bit of earthiness. A typical Irish whisky palate deepened by these slightly sweet, dark and fruity notes
Finish:
Long. Did I say long? It feels like it never leaves my mouth, with a slightly oily mouth feel. Cedar and Eucalyptus in there as it ebbs.
Comments:

A very presentable Irish whiskey, with no objections to register. I enjoy the finish which adds complexity and sweetness to the Bushmills’ flagship line. Most interestingly, the sherry is there but deployed subtly, with no intention to carmelize the taste. Balanced and modest, this very reasonable bottle is a great way to add Irish to your whiskey shelves.
