Bardstown Bourbon, Founders Brewing Collaborate On New Bourbon

Bardstown Bourbon Company’s new release brings together bourbon and beer in partnership with Founders Brewing.

The new expression is the latest in its Collaborative series and is now available at the distillery gift shop and to be distributed where Bardstown Bourbon Company products are sold.

This collaboration begins with 10-year-old Tennessee bourbon finished for 15 months in Founders Brewing KBS Stout Barrels. The result is described by the distillery as a blend of cocoa, orange peel and roasted malt flavors that feature dark chocolate, hazelnut and black cherry notes on the palate.

At 110 proof, the spirit rounds out with a warm finish.

“The robust profile is a direct result of the care and coordination in shipping these flavorful barrels,” said Dan Callaway, Bardstown’s master blender, in a prepared statement. “The day they are emptied in Grand Rapids, they are filled with bourbon in Bardstown. The rich waves of chocolate malt from KBS carry through the entire aging process and balance beautifully with classic bourbon.”

He said this spirit of collaboration is core to the Bardstown Bourbon Company, which now offers custom distilling of more than 50 mash bills.

“Our collaborations are an expression of our commitment to community and alchemy. Bardstown Bourbon Company is a neutral ground for the sharing of ideas and best business practices in distilling, the culinary arts and hospitality,” said Brooke Berry, Bardstown marketing director. “We lean into partnerships with brands that have similar passions. Our Founders collaboration is an invitation to two sets of loyal followers to adventure into new flavors together and to invite others to enjoy both products with food in unique ways.”

The Collaborative Series is just one of several offerings of limited bourbons finished in wine, brandy, beer and other spirits barrels for Bardstown.

Prior releases include Phifer Pavitt, The Prisoner, Copper & Kings, and Maison Ferrand. Bardstown Bourbon Company’s Collaborative Series releases received “Best in Class” honors at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in both 2020 (Phifer Pavitt #1) and 2021 (Château de Laubade).

Several releases are slated for 2022 including Plantation Rum and a second Château de Laubade release.

Since 2016, Bardstown Bourbon Company as a custom distiller has produced more than 50 different mash bills for 25 various whiskey and bourbon brands in the world.
