A rarity in the whisky auction world, the entire contents of a cask of a Glendronach whisky will go up for sale on Oct. 23rd in Neuilly-sur-Seine, near Paris, France.
Aguttes Auction house will be the operation bringing the 630 bottles drawn from this cask under the hammer.
A statement from Aguttes explains that this 30-year-old whisky, called “The One And Only,” celebrates the bicentennial of the Excise Act, passed in 1823, which marked the official birth of Scotch whisky. The Act legalized its production and established its taxation by the British government.
The auction house estimates the cask to sell in the €300,000-€400,000 range ($327,000-$436,000 USD). This is the first whisky cask to go up for auction since the Glendronach Distillery was founded.

Pierre-Luc Nourry, with the Aguttes auction, said that this is an exclusive lot of one of the most representative single malts in the style of whisky produced by The Glendronach. “Glendronach is one of the five most sought-after brands at auction worldwide. In this instance, this 30-year-old whisky, characteristic of the distillery’s expertise, offers high investment potential.”
The Glendronach Distillery was founded by James Allardice in 1826, and for nearly two centuries the Highland single malt maker used oak casks that previously held Spanish fortified wines, and practiced ancestral methods handed down through the generations. The origin of the word Glendronach means “blackberry valley” in Gaelic.
The tasting notes from Aguttes explains that the wood of the Oloroso cask reveals a whisky with a deep mahogany color and a nose with aromas of dried fruit, hawthorn, wild honey and dark chocolate-covered cherry. The palate features notes of baked apple, kirsch cherry and walnut.

It finishes tannic, rounded by the grape notes and the sweetness of the cherry.
This cask was selected by Master Blender Rachel Barrie, the first woman to become Cellar Master in 2003, and joined The Glendronach distillery in 2015. Each bottle of this limited release has been individually numbered and carries a distinctive certificate of authenticity in the packaging.
The public “Glendronach: The One & Only” auction takes place October 23rd at Aguttes location, 164 bis avenue Charles-de-Gaulle, in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France.
