Scotland’s 8 Doors Distillery Officially Opened By King Charles

In the far north of mainland Scotland sits 8 Doors Distillery, which was officially opened by King Charles at the beginning of August during His Majesty’s visit.

The king toured the distillery, its visitor center, and the warehouse, greeting the staff and learning about 8 Doors Distillery and its whisky. He officially unveiled the welcome plaque.

The king and the distillery team then filled a barrel, an American oak Pedro Ximenez hogshead cask to be exact, with new-make spirit.

“We were honored to welcome The King to 8 Doors Distillery and thoroughly enjoyed sharing our story and what makes our distillery so unique with him, as well as offering him the opportunity to fill a cask in our warehouse,” said Kerry Campbell, co-founder of 8 Doors, in a prepared statement.

“Throughout his visit, he had the opportunity to meet many of our team, from those working in distillation through to our retail and distillery lounge staff, all of whom embody our passion for both the whisky industry and the local area,” she added.

Campbell explained that 8 Doors Distillery draws inspiration from the rugged landscape of the coastal highland area where it resides, and that the Scotch made there is the first legal whisky made in John O’Groats since 1837.

Derek and Kerry Campbell are the Caithness area husband and wife team that founded 8 Doors. They designed the distillery and visitor center to showcase the two copper stills and their traditional whisky-making process, while celebrating the views of the Pentland Firth through the facility’s large glass windows.
