Scallywag’s Fifth Annual Chocolate Inspired Whisky Bottling Unveiled

Celebrating World Chocolate Day recently, Scottish whisky distiller and bottler Douglas Laing unveiled an addition to their Scallywag range … The Chocolate Edition, 100% Sherry Cask Speyside Malt Scotch Whisky.

This release is the fifth annual chocolate bottling from the Scallywag brand.

The original Scallywag was a small-batch bottling within Douglas Laing’s “Remarkable Regional Malts” range that launched in 2013.

The distiller’s notes show that it’s made using Speyside single cask single malts, including Mortlach, Macallan and Glenrothes. The spirit features a burnt-sienna color and delivers dark chocolate, sweet stewed fruits and spiced vanilla flavor notes.

A statement from Douglas Laing explained that the new Chocolate Edition is made to place a spotlight on Scallywag’s noted cocoa-rich quality. The “dessert-like” recipe marries together a selection of Douglas Laing’s “most chocolatey flavored” Sherry matured Speyside single malts.

Metallized paper is used for the new bottle’s label and gift tube, which offers a swirled, melted chocolate design with a shimmering finish. Packaging details feature a glossy varnish and gold foil effects.

Chris Leggat, Douglas Laing CEO, said, “It’s been great to watch the momentum and demand for Scallywag’s Chocolate bottling ramp up year after year, from our initial 300 bottle release back in 2018, to our now 3,600 bottle fifth annual release. As a company we strive for continual improvement and Scotch whisky perfection. And I have to say, this year’s Scallywag Chocolate expression, with its striking fully bespoke packaging and incredibly indulgent liquid quality, comes pretty close to our ambitious objective.”

The new release is limited to 600 cases, 3,600 bottles globally. Scallywag The Chocolate Edition is bottled at 48% ABV and has a suggested retail price of £57.50/€67.50.
