Royal Salute The Age Collection Whisky One For The Ages

Royal Salute, a popular blended Scotch whisky brand, is out with a new and much more expensive offering compared to the The Eternal Reserve expression we chronicled a couple of months ago. Known as The Age Collection, it consists of a blend of whiskies that include some 30 year old spirits in the mix.

Royal Salute The Age Collection, of which there are 21 sets, is “comprised of ten blends, with the youngest containing whiskies that are 21 years or older, and the oldest containing whiskies that are at least 30 years old.” It is an expensive collector’s item, costing upwards of $40,000 USD.

The whiskies, having first been aged in first fill American oak barrels, were then blended by Royal Salute. It should be noted that some of it comes from distilleries which have been closed for sometime, though it is not mentioned specifically which ones.

Owing to the high price of this 10 bottle per set offering it is, according to Royal Salute,

presented on a Mackereth’s bespoke handcrafted plinth carved by Jack Badger using 8,000 year old Neolithic wood taken from ancient river beds in the heart of Croatia. Each blend comes in a dark blue crystal decanter hand crafted using techniques dating back to the First Century AD by Dartington, a traditional glass manufacturer based in England.

“The Age Collection combines timeless tradition with contemporary understanding to create a celebration of longevity in the year Queen Elizabeth becomes Britain’s longest serving monarch,” said Vadim Grigorian, Global Brand Director at Royal Salute, in a statement. “As sources of the naturally preserved material are very limited, this rare oak is the perfect way to display the time and craft behind these blends. The Age Collection unites time, craft and quality; all values encapsulated by Royal Salute.”
