New Johnnie Walker Black Label Triple Cask Edition Drops Into Travel Retail

There are a mind-blowing number of Johnnie Walker Scotch whisky variants out there. We only see a portion of these appear in the United States, but globally, and particularly in travel retail, it seems as if there are endless combinations under this brand that can be cooked up by Diageo. One of the latest is a new Black Label bottling that’s been triple cask aged.

The new Johnnie Walker Black Label Triple Cask Edition, according to those behind it, was created by using a blend of malt and grain whiskies from distilleries such as Cardhu and Cameronbridge. It looks to be non-age statement in presentation, having been matured in a rather curious combination of casks previously used to mature American bourbon, then Scotch whisky and finally Caribbean pot still rum. Plans call for it to be released exclusively at over 300 Dufry global travel retail stores, which one can typically find in airports and other travel related points.

“We’re delighted to release Johnnie Walker Black Label Triple Cask Edition as part of an exclusive partnership with Dufry stores,” said Roger Jackson, Commercial Director Europe & Middle East of Diageo Global Travel, in a prepared statement. “Shoppers are set to be inspired and excited by the instore tasting opportunities and knowledgeable staff who will explore the creation of this brilliant new blend with whisky fans.”

Should you seek out a 1-liter bottle of this new Johnnie Walker Black Label expression, expect to pay 28 GBP, or around $38 USD. It is bottled at 40% ABV and very limited official tasting notes suggest “layers of sweet vanilla and ginger aromas, with notes of exotic fruit and brown sugars.”
