Scotland’s The Macallan distillery is something of a master when it comes to punching out non-age statement Scotch whisky offerings. These sometimes go on to be core brand expressions available on a regular basis, and sometimes they become more limited edition bottlings. It is the latter group the new Classic Cut belongs to.
The Macallan Classic Cut, according to those behind it, was matured exclusively in hand-picked oak casks seasoned with Oloroso sherry from Jerez, Spain. It was then bottled by the Macallan Master Whisky Maker (Bob Delgarno) at 58.4% ABV.

Plans call for 90,000 bottles of Classic Cut to be released globally at a price point of around $90. While it may be a bit of a stretch to call it a limited edition release given these numbers, the distillery nonetheless has deemed it appropriate to label it as such.
Very limited tasting, official tasting notes from The Macallan for this whisky indicate flavors “of creamy vanilla, sweet ginger and warming oak, and a satisfyingly long finish.”
