Johnnie Walker Adds 3 New Whiskies To Its Blenders’ Batch Range

Diageo’s Johnnie Walker blended Scotch whisky range is known for pumping out a number of new expressions on a yearly basis, which is fairly easy for those behind it to do given the huge amount of aging stock they have access to. One of the more recent new ranges under this brand is Blenders’ Batch which, to date, has seen at least three bottlings come to market. That is now effectively being doubled, with three new offerings making their debut at the Diageo World Class Bartender of the Year Final in Mexico City.

Johnnie Walker Blenders’ Batch Wine Cask Blend, Johnnie Walker Blenders’ Batch Rum Cask Finish and Johnnie Walker Blenders’ Batch Espresso Roast, according to those behind them, are created with bartenders and Scotch cocktails in mind. At the same time though it is said they can also be enjoyed straight up over ice.

All three new expressions were crafted by a team of 12 blenders, under the guidance of Diageo master blender Jim Beveridge. Diageo unfortunately was very short on specifics around each release in material put out to the press, so all we really know right now is that the Wine Cask Blend, created by Johnnie Walker blender Aimée Gibson, “is the outcome of an experiment in maturation in wine casks set in motion by Aimée’s mentor Beveridge, over a decade ago. It is an exceptionally fruity Scotch that is full of lively fresh berry, sweet toffee flavours and delicate fragrant aromas.”

“Our blenders are given free rein to take inspiration from anything and everything around them when making whisky: experiences they’ve had, personal passions, sounds, and flavours,” said Beveridge in a prepared statement. “Their passion drives them to challenge the whisky-making status quo and to tap into other flavour cultures to create the best possible flavour combinations for all of our blends, every day.”

Johnnie Walker Blenders’ Batch Wine Cask Blend is set to debut in September for around $30. Johnnie Walker Blenders’ Batch Rum Cask Finish and Johnnie Walker Blenders’ Batch Espresso Roast, meanwhile, will be available globally in October.
