Gordon & MacPhail Gathers 353 Years Of Scotch Into One Collection

Scotch whisky independent bottler Gordon & MacPhail has, over the years, acquired quite a stock of casks containing older whiskies from a range of distilleries. One of these happens to be Glen Grant, and it is from this facility a new, very limited edition range is being introduced that consists of bottlings distilled between 1950 and 1955.

The new Gordon & MacPhail Glen Grant Collection, according to those behind it, focuses on six consecutive years from a single distillery. Each of these bottlings is labeled by vintage, some of which have already garnered themselves some awards and praise. The Rare Vintage Glen Grant 1954 won a double gold award at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition 2017 and a gold medal in the International Spirits Challenge 2017. The Rare Vintage Glen Grant 1952 was recognised by Jim Murray in 2017 with the accolade for Single Malt 41 Years & Over (Multiple Casks).

Gordon & MacPhail Glen Grant Collection

“By creating this collection, we have captured a unique piece of Scotland’s liquid history, bringing together a combined 353 years of knowledge, expertise, and whisky maturation,” said Stephen Rankin, director and member of the fourth generation of the Urquhart family who own Gordon & MacPhail, in a prepared statement. “With six whiskies aged between 57 and 61 years old, this collection is a testament to the company’s ability to nurture aged expressions.”

Should you want to acquire a set of these, take note that only 75 Glen Grant Collections will be available for sale in this first release at a price point of  £9,995, or about $13,100 USD. The Glen Grant distillery, for the curious, is a landmark Rothes distillery built in the 1840s overlooking the River Spey. Today, Glen Grant is famed for its unique, almost square section to the stills that lead to “a deliciously light, fruity, and gentle character.”
