Glencadam Distillery Reintroduces Its 18 Years Old Single Malt

The historic Glencadam Distillery recently began releasing back into the wild its vaunted 18 Years Old Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky.

A statement from the Scotch maker noted that this rare whisky was crafted by Master Distiller Robert Fleming, a balanced expression at its natural color and non-chill filtered. It clocks in at 46% ABV, similar to previous bottlings.

The whisky itself is a single malt distilled and matured in hand-selected American oak ex-bourbon casks.

Fleming said, “It’s great to have the expression back. Beautifully balanced and creamy … with refined aromas of Glencadam’s signature tropical fruits and spice on the nose, the palate is complex and fruity giving way to a smooth, warm and long-lasting finish.”

His distiller’s notes show that on the nose, the whisky has aromas of fresh stone fruits, pear blossom, dried pineapple and panna cotta with hints of baking spices. On the palate, it features layers of baked peach, rice pudding, lemon curd and crème caramel, with nutmeg and cinnamon. It finishes with tastes of poached pears, ginger biscuits and apricot Danish fading into a sweet spice.

Fleming explained that the re-introduced Glencadam 18 Years Old is set to be a permanent line extension for the range, which would bridge the gap between the 15 Years Old and the oldest expression in the brand’s core range, the 25 Years Old.

The Glencadam 18 Years Old Highland Single Malt is now available from independent and specialist retailers in the UK, as well as worldwide at Glencadam’s online site, shop.angusdundee.co.uk. It has a suggested price of £145 for a 70cl bottle.

Scotland’s Glencadam Distillery dates back to 1825, and has made Scotch in the same process they do almost 200 years later. The East Highland distillery is located in the town of Brechin, Angus, and was mothballed for a time between 1999 and 2003, which led to Glencadam 18 Years Old being unavailable in recent years.
