Borderlands x Ballantine’s Bar Edition Celebrates Blend Of Whisky, Gaming

Ballantine’s Scotch recently teamed with video game Borderlands to serve side missions to the whisky community, which includes launching a limited-edition bottle and offering exclusive access to Borderlands 3 content.

Fictional Borderlands’ bar mogul, Mad Moxxi, was “appointed” to the role of Chief Galactic Expansion Officer (CGEO) to help launch Ballantine’s Scotch into the gaming sphere. A statement from the joint-operation states that during Moxxi’s initial four-phase contract, she will be responsible for expanding Ballantine’s “intergalactic footprint to the furthest reaches of Pandora, the universe, and beyond.”

Sticking with the Borderlands’ theme, the joint statement explained that Moxxi’s role as CGEO will see her bring together existing Vault Hunters and new looters from across the galaxy, serving up a series of missions and launching her very own limited-edition loot.

To kick off this partnership is the new Ballantine’s x Moxxi’s Bar Edition. And just like at Moxxi’s bar in the game, it’s first come, first served. Moxxi will also share her spoils with close friends and fans through her social channels on LinkedIn and Twitter. Those that get a bottle will get access to exclusive Borderlands 3 content.

The distiller’s notes show the Bar Edition Scotch to be light gold in color, with soft heather honey aromas and a hint of spice on the nose. It tastes of subtle, sweet flavors like milk chocolate, red apple and vanilla. The whisky finishes with a fresh and floral after-taste that creates a rounded glow.

In the coming months, Pandora’s favorite barkeep will also be tasked with recruiting her own squad of Vault Hunters to help spread the word, broadcasting their adventures, giving out exclusive swag and sharing Mad Moxxi’s latest scoops. There may also be appearances by Moxxi at bars beyond her usual turf.

Moxxi will be reporting directly to Ballantine’s Marketing Director, Mathieu Deslandes.

“We’ve been following Moxxi’s adventures in Pandora for some time now and are delighted to have such an infamous entrepreneur on board,” Deslandes said. “Her handling of the Heist of the Handsome Jackpot was second to none and her impressive hostessing of the Underdome Riot is not easily forgotten. I have no doubt Moxxi will help catapult Ballantine’s to galactic heights and encourage Vault Hunters to stay true to themselves.”

Moxxi’s appointment is the first step in a long-term partnership between Ballantine’s and the Borderlands franchise, with more to be announced throughout 2022. You can find out more at Moxxi’s channels as well as at www.ballantines.com.
