New Teeling Whiskey Release Is Wine Cask Aged

Teeling Whiskey 2016With St. Patrick’s Day just around the corner, thoughts of Irish whiskey come to mind. Teeling Whiskey Company, an independent Irish whiskey producer, is hoping it is on your mind, as it has just introduced a dozen single cask releases which have been hand bottled and distributed to a range of drinking venues and retailers across the US.

Here is the information on the 2016 U.S. Single Barrel release, according to Teeling:

[It] consists of 13 Year Old Single Malt Irish whiskey distilled in 2002, and initially matured in ex-bourbon barrels for the first 12 years before being finished exclusively in ex-White Port barrels from the Carcavelos region of Portugal famous for its beautiful light fragrant fruity flavor.

The Teeling Whiskey Company is the first whiskey producer to ever use this type of White Port barrel to age whiskey and deliver a truly unique taste that works perfectly with the underlying taste characteristics of Irish whiskey. Each bottle of Single Malt is numbered, hand filled and bottled in its most natural form at cask/barrel strength.

The Carcavelos region, for those unfamiliar with it, “has a long winemaking history dating back to the 18th century when Sebastião José de Carvalho e Melo, Marquis of Pombal owned vineyards here. The region is known for its fortified wine production, creating off dry, topaz colored wines that have nutty aromas and flavors.”

We are delighted to be able to release such unique and innovative expressions of Teeling whiskey in the U.S. for St. Patrick’s Day,” said Jack Teeling, founder of the Teeling Whiskey Company, in a statement. “In conjunction with some of the leading U.S. retailers we continue to drive the choice and breadth of offerings for Irish whiskey drinkers.”

Should you choose to hunt down a bottle of this Teeling release, expect to pay around $85 for it. You’ll find tasting notes and information on where it is available below for your consideration.
