Bushmills’ Second Rare Cask Series A New 29 Year Finished in PX Sherry Casks

The second in its series of rare casks, Bushmills recently released a 29 Year Old Single Malt finished in Pedro Ximenez Sherry casks.

A statement from the distiller said this expression is defined by Bushmills 400-year-old history  of Irish single malts, and this whiskey reflects the distillery’s vast stock of rare casks with varied age statements and the expertise of those who make it.

This special single malt is limited to 500 bottles, and it’s the expression that Master Blender Alex Thomas called “one of the finest whiskeys ever sealed under the Bushmills name.”

And that’s saying something, as in 2020, Bushmills released a 28-year-old Irish whiskey aged in cognac casks for the first iteration of its Rare Casks series.

Bushmills’ 29-Year Single Malt is made from a mashbill of 100-percent Irish malted barley, which began its transformation in copper pot stills back in 1992.

It spent more than a decade maturing in hand-selected ex-bourbon barrels before heading to first-fill Pedro Ximenez sherry casks in 2004 for an additional 17 years. It was bottled earlier this year.

The distiller’s notes describe the single malt as having aromas of cashews, hazelnuts, and dates before the palate tastes notes of dried fruit, praline, and orange peel. It all gives way to a vanilla warmth and a buttery finish.

The Bushmills’ 29-Year-Old clocks in at 53% ABV and is available on www.flaviar.com and other online retailers for a suggested retail price of $750.
