Boann Distillery Marked Recent Summer Solstice With New Single Pot Still Whiskey

Ireland’s Boann Distillery recently marked the summer solstice by introducing its second single pot still Irish whiskey bottling, Cask No. 12.

The whiskey maker noted that the new expression is a Rivesaltes Single Cask that’s been bottled at cask strength. Cask No. 12, to be exact. It’s a Rivesaltes Ambré barrique from the Languedoc-Roussillon region in Southern France.

The whiskey was aged and bottled at Boann Distillery in Dogheda, in Ireland’s County Meath. The whiskey clocks in at 60.5% ABV. In all, the single cask saw 401 bottles of 500ml each produced.

Back in December of 2022, Boann marked the winter solstice with their first Irish single pot still whiskey, Solstice.

This follow-up, “Summer Solstice” saw three years of maturation in a 225-liter Rivesaltes Rouge Barrique cask from the Languedoc-Roussillon region in the south of France.

The distiller’s notes show the summer-inspired Solstice to have notes of red raisin, caramelized hazelnuts and burnt pineapple.

Pat Cooney, Boann’s founder, said, “Our Summer Solstice whiskey embodies the essence of the season and captures the spirit of the sun’s zenith, offering a symphony of flavors and a testament to our commitment to excellence.”

Summer Solstice Single Pot Still Whiskey has a suggested price of €150 per 500ml bottle, and can be purchased exclusively on the Boann Distillery website, with a limit of two bottles per person.
