Smooth Ambler Adds Founders’ Cask Strength Series Bourbon To Its Portfolio

West Virginia’s Smooth Ambler Spirits recently launched its Founders’ Cask Strength Series Bourbon.

A statement from the distiller said the cask strength series was born from founder and whiskey-maker John Little’s desire to showcase distilling, maturation, and blending while highlighting ingredients mostly from the Appalachian region.

The Founder’s Cask Strength is straight bourbon whiskey aged five years, non-chill filtered and has a mash bill of 71% corn, 21% rye and 8% malted barley.

The distiller’s notes show the bourbon is copper and gold in color. On the nose, it has aromas of dark chocolate, cherry, graham cracker, and charred oak. The palate delivers tastes of brown sugar, cherry, chocolate and allspice. The finish lingers with tastes of cinnamon, cherry and oak.

Whiskey maker John Little said that with this bourbon recipe, “we add a modest amount of rye to play well with high corn content and let it age in Char #4 casks in the Appalachian climate. It’s a surprising meddling of flavors and geographical superpowers that just work effortlessly.”

Founders’ Cask Strength Series Bourbon will see six batches made a year, with less than 900 total cases of product available nationwide. Starting in June, it will be available at select liquor stores throughout CA, FL, GA, IL, MD, MI, NC, NY, OH, PA, SC, TX. It has a suggested retail price of $54.99 per bottle.
