Pinhook Bourbon Releases Second Edition Of Its Collaboration Series

Pinhook Bourbon found success in a collaboration with André Hueston Mack, founder of Maison Noir Wines, in a first in the Collaboration Series. Pinhook found that a second edition of the series is in order.

They’ve recently released Pinhook’s Collaboration Series #2, a limited-edition bourbon with only 3,500 bottles in the run.

“The Collaboration Series is one of my favorite projects to work on,” said Sean Josephs, Pinhook’s master blender, in a prepared statement. “It allows me to work with my friends from my years in hospitality; to learn how they see bourbon and distilling; to grow my skill set, bringing back some new techniques to Pinhook’s other lines; to make some unique-tasting liquid; and, of course, have a little bit of fun.”

He said it’s important for distillers and blenders to “stay curious,” and that this is a great way to “invite curiosity.”

For Collaboration Series #2, Josephs partnered with Garrett Oliver, brewmaster of Brooklyn Brewing and a 2014 James Beard Award Winner.

The high-proof, high-rye bourbon was distilled in Texas at Still Austin, then aged four years in the Texas heat. Pinhook blenders note this results in a whiskey with maturity that exceeds its years in the barrel.

The tasting notes find aromas of tropical fruit, spice and chocolate giving way to gingerbread, caramel and dark cherry flavors on the palate, with a hint of licorice.

The statement from Pinhook also notes that proceeds from the sale of Collaboration Series #2 supports The Michael J. Jackson Foundation for Brewing and Distilling, which awards scholarships in brewing and distilling education to people of color in the United States. Oliver is the founder and chair.

The total donation will allow for the award of 20 scholarships, which will double the amount previously awarded.

Pinhook’s Collaboration Series #2 has a suggested retail price of $99.99. It’s available on Breeze, Flaviar, Pinhook’s text-to-buy service; and at select retail stores nationwide.
